Oak Open Days in Starkville - West Point area, Mississippi
The International Oak Society, Mossy Oak Nativ Nurseries, and Mississippi State University cordially invite you to Oak Open Days, June 28-29, 2014 in the beautiful state of Mississippi. This OOD will take place in the Starkville - West Point area of west-central MS. This tour will feature an exciting number of hybrid oaks; many of large proportions. We will tour the Mississippi State University campus and see several unusual hybrids such as Quercus pagoda × nigra as well as outstanding specimens of species oaks such as Q. phellos and Q. nigra. We will visit the cities of Starkville and West Point and see many unique hybrids of cultivated and spontaneous origins. Perhaps the crown jewel of the tour is a visit to a private hardwood forest where we will see mature specimens of Q. ×tottenii, Q. ×beadlei, Q. alba × lyrata, Q. similis and the rare Carya myristiciformis, to name a few. We will conclude our tour with a visit to the Mossy Oak Nativ Nursery where participants will receive a free oak seedling to take home. For those who are able to come a day early, there will be a social held Friday night, the 27th, to welcome guests and give an overview of the next day’s events.

We understand that this is a hot time of the year, but it is the only time that a tour of the private estate is possible. For those who decide to fly in, the Golden Triangle Airport (GTR) is only a 20 minute drive to the tour sites, and pickup is available for those who do not wish to rent a car.
Also, for those who come early, or wish to stay on after the OOD, there are many local areas that may be of interest, such as the Blackland Prairie and Old Waverly Mansion.
Please see registration information below.
We hope to see you in June!
