IOS Tour of Taiwan (CANCELED)

Monday, 21 October 2024 to Tuesday, 29 October 2024

Due to the consequences of the April 3 earthquake, we have been obliged to cancel this event. 

Taiwanese IOS members Ai-Kuang Tung, Fu-Che Pan, and Dr. Fuh-Jiunn Pan have prepared a week-long itinerary to see the oaks of Taiwan and some other notable tree species.

The Tour will begin in Taipei and then explore the mountains to the south, including visits to Lala Mountain, Mingchi Forest Recreation Area, Taipingshan, and Taroko National Park.

The second part of the itinerary will focus on the Fagaceae forests of southeastern Taiwan, making our base in Taitung City. The final day of the Tour will take us back up to Taipei along Provincial Highway 11 and the beautiful landscapes of the East Coast.

Oak species we expect to see:

Quercus championii, Q. gilva, Q. glauca, Q. globosa, Q. hypophaea, Q. longinux, Q. longinux var. kuoi, Q. morii, Q. pachyloma, Q. salicina, Q. sessilifolia, Q. tarokoensis, Q. tatakaensis, Q. variabilis.
