New Book Featuring Notable Trees: "World Tree Story"

World Tree Story, a new book by Julian Hight, featuring notable trees from around the world, including many oaks, is available for advance purchase, via a crowdfunding campaign. Julian has provided the following information, detailing the oaks he has included in the book.

Following the success of Britain's Tree Story for National Trust in 2011 (which extensively features Britain's oaks), I travelled to photograph 100 magnificent trees in 40 countries for World Tree Story - history and legends of the world's ancient trees. Whilst depicting many kinds of tree, the book features 24 outstanding Oaks, mostly across northern Europe, but also as far afield as California and Hebron.

Penduculate and sessile oaks featured include;

The Capon Tree, Aberfoyle - thought to be the last remaining oak from Scotland's ancient Jed Forest.

The Marton Oak, Cheshire - England's largest-girthed and possibly oldest oak.

Majesty, Kent  - Britain's largest maiden oak.

The Pontfadog Oak, Wales' largest oak - photographed before it sadly fell in 2013.

Kongeegen, Jaergerspris - Denmark's and possibly Europe's oldest oak.

Kvilleken, Norra Kvill - Sweden's oldest tree, Europe's widest oak.

The Chapel Oak, Allouville-Bellefosse - France's most eccentric oak, holds two chapels and survives because of them.

Freideriken Oak, oldest oak in Hasbruch forest, Germany.

Ivenack Oak, Germany - Europe's largest oak by volume.

Jack London Oak, California - token Californian live oak representing Oakland’s lost oak forest, and a tribute to the city’s most famous literary son.

Abraham's Oak, Hebron -  oldest Palestinian Oak. The tree’s name comes from the belief that it is the spot where Abraham pitched his tent and entertained three angels.

Other oaks from Poland, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and the countries already mentioned feature.

By pledging to the World Tree story crowdfunded campaign, interested people can be part of the project. It runs until 13 June:
